The sharpie RULES. Automatically scannable optical ballots...generous
space on the ballot itself...creates a permanent artifact. Honestly,
the low tech solutions are sometimes the best, and if all voting was
done by optical scanning of indelible ink on paper ballots, we'd be in
much better shape.
As soon as the high-tech voting machines pushed by Diebold et al.
became fashionable, I got a lot more worried about the future of
voting. Less reliable than an ATM, slower than a paper ballot, words
fail me.
