Well, is the Nickelodeon poll just an online poll? Do they have to hold
a membership? Is there a possibility of some adult going in and skewing
the results? Also, if it is an online poll, do you think it might have
something to do with the demographic of parents who put their children
on the computer at an early age? I know it's about the same suggestion
as the cell phone issue I don't put much credence in, except this was
measured, so we can speculate as to the reasons why. I just don't think
we should speculate over a group when we don't even know who they
support.
Was there something to skew the Weekly Reader poll?
It almost looks like they are on two different demographics, but my
personal experience with the Weekly Reader makes me think that their
poll would have a much larger base, and it would be a little more
accurate. I just haven't been a big fan of Nickelodeon since they
stopped showing "You Can't Do That on Television". :-) It's a shame when
a whole generation of kids doesn't know the origin of green slime. :-)

Here are some news reports. On the Nickelodeon election:

Dunno about what Mike was writing about, but here's the Weekly Reader
poll announcement:

I find it interesting that the result of this poll and the Nick one
are so discrepant despite both having better than decent track
records. (I think Nick is a perfect 4/4 while Weekly Reader is
11/12.) I have a hunch that the demographic groups tested here vary a
*lot* by now. Nick was an on-line poll, I believe, while Weekly
Reader did stuff in schools. I don't believe most (any?) local
schools here did it this year. Clearly, one of them is going down
this year. :-)
