This is old news. They also apparently disavowed their story on
"Communists for Kerry", which was also made up and similarly slipped
through their hiqh quality editing process.
All I can say is that there is a crude analogy between not using
Windows and not watching TV: if you don't watch TV, you are immune to
some (but not all) viruses of disinformation. Now, do I really think
the author in question here meant to fool people for real? No, I
don't. But if an editor in your organization okays something like
this, it's presumably because he or she can't tell the difference
between bold fabrication and the stuff they usually run.
