Both addressed many substantive issues.  For people who care about those 
issues and don't already know who they want to vote for, the debate(s) 
will give them the additional information they need to make a decision.

I was surprised by Bush's speech.  It was a little too long and though it 
had plenty of references to 9/11 it didn't have the single-minded focus on 
9-11 and the military that we were getting in most of the other speeches. 
He did address many substantive issues, and made many promises, but so did 
Kerry.  Did Bush "cover so many more real topics and issues" than Kerry, 
or did your friend just forget what Kerry had said more than a month ago?
