It was a foolish speech in several ways. It was so extreme that it will
probably harm the Republicans more than it will help them. He said,
essentially, that Kerry is a weakling who will do nothing to protect us
against the horrible threat of terrorism, while Bush is an unmovable rock
of Gibralter who will defend us at any cost. Just ridiculous.
On the other hand, it should be obvious to anyone watching this convention
that the Republicans think the only thing they have going for them is that
we were attacked by terrorists while Bush was President. They cannot stop
talking about it. Is there an economy? Do we have an environment to
protect? Does a President do nothing except run an anti-terrorism
program? Apparently, the Republican answer to all of those questions is 'no'.
