For the TDI, this is recommended. The exhaust recirculation rate for
the turbo is set too high by the factory and causes the intakes to get
coked quite quickly (around 40K miles). To have the dealer clean the
intake manifold for you is apparently about $800. But you can dial
back the recirculation rate a little and this supposedly alleviates
the coking of the manifold.
