There's one watch that I'm after right now, and it doesn't even have an
LCD display. Not only that, it doesn't even have a microprocessor...or
a quartz crystal...or a battery for that matter. It's a 100%
mechanical watch made in Russia during the Cold War for their Mig
pilots. The make is "Sturmanski", and there are some remakes available
right now, but every now and then you see an original on eBay. You can
think of it as the rough Soviet equivalent of the Omega Speedmaster :)
To me, a watch with that sort of history is waaay cooler than something
that I can ssh into a server with :D Then again, I'm a sucker for any
sort of Communist artifacts...evidence the posters sitting in my living
room that Mikhail asked about with a very puzzled look when he came to
pick something up ;)
Given my capitalist nature, some probably wonder why I have this
affinity for such goods... Honestly, the history of the USSR simply
fascinates me, being so far from the form of society I know, love, and
respect. Kind of a war-trophy, triumph-of-good-over-evil sort of
thing...
