Uh, nice try. I would call that "fairness" instead of "selfishness".
It's the difference between living with your bad decisions or expecting
others to make up for them. The girl that has an abortion is refusing
to live with her bad decisions. Likewise for the people who dropped out
of high school or majored in some bullshit degree and now want to force
me to pay to improve their lot in life.
Too many people have such a ridiculously distorted definition of "fair"
these days though, I don't expect everyone to understand this
distinction. Dictionary.com states one definition of "fair" as, "Being
in accordance with relative merit or significance". You've got to
understand that "fair" doesn't always mean "everyone gets what they
want". Rather, it's more like "everyone gets what they deserve".
At the end of the day, people aren't entitled to jack shit except for
that which they earn. That includes possibly having a hard life due to
the fact that you got knocked up. And before you flame me about
insensitivity, I've got a buddy up in Chicago that's having a surprise
baby next week...and he agrees with me 100%.
