As a republican, I know you are right, we have to keep Bush for now.
As to why the loyalty is there. Well I think it was a matter of perceptions.
Gore and the democratic party was out there touting how stupid Bush was.
They were revealing his flaws things he did as a younger man that many other
regular people have done. I think for many people Bush was a vote against
the Ivy League crowd that have been in power for so long.
There are always those people out there, dare I say a lot like Mike here,
that no matter what, come hell or high water they are going to vote
democratic. My father is like that. I laugh because he will go to the voting
booth and mark the X for the entire democratic party, it does not matter
what the person stands for, as long as they are democrat that is what
matters. No one can reach these people, even in my father's case, when you
point out to him that the candidate they are supporting is totally counter
to everything he stands for his line is "I will never vote for a
republican."
These are the same people that think hate Fox News because Fox News does not
tow the democratic party line at every opportunity like CNN and the other
major news outlets. These are the same people that do not even see the media
bias because the message they are getting is sympathetic to their stand.
To me Kerry is like Clinton, he is taking a page from the Clinton playbook,
the difference is he does not have the looks and personality to pull it off.
Kerry shifts his position around however he sees the wind blowing. He came
out the other day and said he did not support giving drivers licenses to
illegal aliens, within hours of that remark his PR guy was on the air
spinning that it is not really his official stance, his official stance is
to let the states decide. So much for taking a stand eh?
This on the surface is no big deal, but when you put this together with all
the other flip flops he does, then you have to wonder what he is actually
standing for and what will he do when he gets in office.
With Bush you might not like his stand on things, but it is pretty certain
that he is not going to flip flop on it because popular opinion says that he
should. In this case he is leading and not following. A leader is not
defined by always doing what the masses want, where is the leadership in
that? A leader is defined by making the tough choices that on the surface
might be unpopular, but at least he feels they are right. I think in Bush
you have this for good or bad and people actually recognize it.
Anyway I am ranting and I am sure no one will want to read this far except
the really devoted. If you want to have a conversation on this more, then
lets do it, I am always happy to express opinion.
By the way, my mind can be changed to vote democratic, there is a senator or
a governor from I think New Hampshire that is democratic that makes a lot of
sense and could get my vote if he were to run, too bad he did not run.

I think it's hard to switch horses midstream. Why they wanted him in 2000
is the mystery. Now they're stuck.
