I never read a lot of the comics, just enough to know some of the story
line. I really liked what I read when I was a kid. IIRC, Harry does take
up the "Family Business" and it was the setup at the end of the movie.
It was a thing about "The Green Goblin Returns" or something like that.
You can tell he's not his father, but he's cracking up just like his dad
did. I don't know about aliens, but I thought most of Spiderman's
enemy's were like the ones in the movies where real people crack and go
crazy.
I'm pretty sure the Hobgoblin is Harry, and not some alien.

I think it helps if you've read lots of the comics since Rami wove a lot
of cool plotlines from those into the whole thing. From what I
understand Harry becomes a mirror of his father (including the insane
bit) called the "Hobgoblin". But when I was telling my buddy that some
theater worker told us that the Hobgoblin was some sort of alien.
