Not sure. The "Cream of the Crop" group come mostly well-known and
respected publications like the NY Times and the "Cream of the Crop"
usually produce *very* similar mean ratings to those of the entire crop.

I would say 'no' to both of those questions.

I think they they are more often failed film script writers than failed
film directors. Roger Ebert wrote "Beyond the Valley of the Dolls" (1970)
under his own name and a couple of Russ Meyer's '70s crappy soft-pornish
comedy flicks under other names:
