Not a bad answer to a basically rhetorical question.  I used
rottentomatoes as a fairly accurate barometer personally.

Which leads us to 'what does a print publication require as
qualifications for their "film critic"'?  I ask this knowing full well
that publications with a good reputation may require more than "sex with
the editor". ;-P

And what makes a review "respectable"?  That the readers agree with it?
That the box office proceeds validate it?  Originally I asked the
question to point out my belief that film critics are people who didn't
make it as directors but it seems that there's more depth to the
question than my rhetoric indicates.
