1) Ouch.
2) Yeah, that's the problem with Columbia and VW. The VW guy here
can do the scheduled maintenance, but can't do warranty repairs.
And also won't replace their computerized keys.
3) We did test-drive a Passat GLS *sedan* today in Columbia. I
convinced myself that the pass-through from the trunk was big
enough (it's huge) and that the trunk was large enough to consider given
our needs. That did *not* make my life simple. The Passat
really is a disgustingly fun car to drive, even with a 1.8 turbo
on it. This sedan would be thousands cheaper than a new model,
and the car is in decent shape...
...however, the sedan version of the GLS (in particular) is not
designed for tall people to be in the back seat. Head room is
tight, and leg room is only okay. And this GLS sedan...the
interior color is, uh, I guess I'd call it "custard yellow" while
somebody who was trying to be nice might call it "buckskin".
We're not hyper-fashion conscious people but...dang, is that a
strong color statement. Locating a GL(S) wagon here in mid-MO
could turn out to be tough, so the VW dealership question is
still a good one.
