Of course I was being silly, that is the point.

I can make fun like the rest of them, there was no mention of party
affiliation in the movie but the makers went to great lengths to make sure
there was no confusion in which party they were talking about.

I can be amused with movies that make a political statement, Wag the Dog was
interesting and funny, but that movie was meant to be comedy. This movie was
not meant to be comedy. Sure there may have been moments of comedy relief,
there were moments of comedy relief in Saving Private Ryan too, but no one
would say that movie was a comedy.

The point to my sun remark was to point out that there are many things we
still do not understand about our own bodies much less the earth and the
heavens. The point is that we do not have any idea with 100% certainty what
is happening. The same people crying global warming were crying global
cooling in the 70s. No one knows what I causing the climate change, if there
actually is one.

To be a little more serious, with our ability to use technology and get
better data, more accurate world readings in temperature, could it be
possible that we are going through a correction period? One where we are now
actually getting a more accurate picture of what our climate is than our
forfathers could get 100 years ago? Maybe the 2 or 3 degrees the climate has
changed is reflective on that alone?

I case you were wondering I call myself a republican, but mostly I am
conservative. I think conservation is a better way to go. We know that we
have to have things made by companies and in the US companies provide jobs.
We need to provide a climate where companies can do what they do, create
jobs. That does not preclude laws against pollution. I think to say that
republicans want to have dirty water and air is a ridiculous statement
(credited to Al Gore by the way).

The reality is that the Republicans are more up front with their support
for corporations that would be adversely affected by regulations on
emissions, etc., and they are likewise more dubious of the evidence that
humans are influencing global warming trends. But who said the Vice
President was a Republican in the film -- I don't recall any mention of
party affiliation.

Another funny thing -- the Vice President was skeptical about the claims
of one scientist that we needed to do something about global warming. He
was very reasonable to have doubts. They told us repeatedly in the movie
that there are many models of global temperature change and they predict
different things. No one knows which model is correct. That was true,
but there is no model where the temperature plummets by 10 degrees F per
second! They added that one just for fun.

Yes -- it was *funny* -- that's what I'm trying to tell you. They made
the movie funny on purpose. It's fun to go to a funny movie. You should
have had more fun with it!! ;-)

The bit with Mexico was especially funny. Americans were told to evacuate
their country and go to Mexico. The President ordered this and didn't
even think to mention to Mexico that he was sending most of our population
down for a visit. The Mexicans stopped the Americans at the border, but
many just waded across the Rio Grande to sneak into Mexico. I thought it
was pretty funny!

The President got stuck in DC so the VP had to take over. He was in
Mexico when he made his apologetic speach.

Now you're just being silly. We know how far from the Sun the Earth is
and we would know if we're getting closer to the Sun.
