It says that in the US Constitution? I remember "they are endowed by
their Creator with certain unalienable Rights," but that is from the
Declaration of Independence.

There are two problems: (1) some people don't believe in God and therefore
feel free to ignore God's will and (2) some people believe that God has
different wishes for humanity than those claimed by our Founding Fathers.
A third issue to consider: Many people, like me, do not believe that
human rights are God-given, but we would still fight to defend them -- the
very same rights that some believe emanate from God. In other words, God
is not a necessary part of this picture.
