Thanks, Jerry, for posting the article.  I was out of town for a while.

The author obviously is questioning the motives of men who choose to serve
our country in battle.  It isn't wrong to do so, but the author pretends
to know things like "I could tell he was that type of macho guy, from his
scowling, beefy face on the CNN pictures."  I'll bet the author opposes
stereotyping of minorities (e.g., Puerto Ricans), yet this is what s/he
writes.  So I the article was pretty lame - all speculation.

I used to live in Western MA and I went to UMass (where the author is a
grad student).  I know their attitudes.  This kind of thinking would be
very acceptable and popular out there.
