- Thread-topic: [MLUG - DISCUSSION] southpark speaks the truth
Civil unions are not good enough because the wording is discriminitory.
When a judge performs a marriage for a heterosexual couple, they are
married. They have not entered into a civil union, they've entered into
a marriage. Since most churches would probably not perform marriages
between people of the same gender, a judge would be doing the
service/ceremony/whatever. To use two words to describe one thing for
two different sets of people is discriminatory. Separate
laws/rules/definitions for different groups of people does not work. It
will never work as long as the country holds that every citizen is
created equally. And that's why it's not good enough.
