I used to wonder how JC supported so many hotels, and was always told it had something to do with all the people coming to town for meetings and what not, being the capitol. I'm sure someone would say all the businesses in Columbia are the reason for its hotels. Both are wrong. As mentioned before, both these areas have an oversized middle class population. Unlike upper class, which can move to another house they own, or lower class, which is stuck out in the street, the middle class husband can afford a hotel room when he's "in the doghouse". ;-)
