My parents, grandmother and the rest of my entire paternal family all swear to this day that my first words were, "Shut up you God damn dogs."  Apparently, my grandfather was yelling at the neighbor's dogs on July 4 because they wouldn't quit barking, and I blurted this out.  Not bad, if I do say so myself - a full sentence containig a swear word as well as a blaspheme ;)

Sorry.. knew not everyone would get the reference, but felt pretty sure that the majority would.   He's a character in Madeline L'Engle's (spelling?) quartet, "A Wrinkle in Time", "A Wind in the Door", "A Swiftly Tilting Planet", and "Many Waters".

He was very special in a lot of ways.... one of which was that when he did finally start speaking, it was "with none of the baby preliminaries, but in complete sentences."
