Here are the 3 most horrible jobs I have held outside the food
industry:

1) Night manager at Kinko's. I had to do all of the big production
jobs that were due overnight, and fend off the crazy people who
would always show up around 2 am with a baseball bat. We kidded
a lot about the hazards of "Toner Lung".

2) 3rd shift worker at a film processing plant. I had to fulfill a
quota for cutting and pricing other people's horrible vacation
pictures while listening to early 80s Top-40 hits and inhaling
the not-so-sweet smell of photo developing fluid. I needed
money for college, so I worked 60-80 hours per week at this. The
   co-workers were similarly...interesting. Including one who I
half expected to meet later at job 3 below:

3) Research assistant on a research study in the intake floor
of a VA hospital psych ward. This wasn't really so horrible, just
completely surreal. We had to weedle and cajole actively
psychotic individuals into completing a series of psych
experiments including one which was a fused words dichotic
listening experiment. Yes, the patients were hallucinating, and
we had them wear headphones and report what second and third
messages we were sending them were. Oh yeah: and we had to hide
the scissors, the stapler, any electrical cord longer than n
inches long and anything else that could be made to be harmful.

But hey: I did get Columbus Day off. :-)
