I don't agree with what Mike says. Mike's argument is consistently used
over and over by liberal leaning people, with out any thing more than
anecdotal proof. "Well, such and such, a Nobel Prize winner is a
liberal!" I think I know many more people who are intelligent and even
tempered and conservative leaning. Mostly, you don't hear about it,
because they aren't loud and obnoxious.
Academia has gone far out of its way to exclude any one who is not left
leaning. I've seen this mostly in the subjective areas like English and
political sciences, where the teacher can give you a bad grade for
expressing opinions that they disagree with. The sciences have their own
little members only areas. Express logical well researched evidence that
contradicts a long held assumption and you are out on your can, so you
better keep in line.

Another thing for the pro-Fox News group to consider:

When comparing Fox News to NPR, do you really think you're dealing with
comparable quality in terms of writing and reporting? You should think
about this. Fox News has half the intelligence of NPR.

Interesting question: Why does it seem that the intellectual elite of
our
country (and the *world*, I would say)) is Liberal and not Conservative?
Is it because they are smart enough to know better? Is it because of
some
kind of self-perpetuating bias in academe? I think it's a little of
both.

I'm the kind of person who will listen patiently to both NPR and Fox
News.
I probably seem like a "libby" to the far Right and like a moderate to
the
far Left. I can live with that. People who listen only to Fox News and
can't stand NPR are just not getting a full picture of what's really
happening and what people are thinking and feeling about the major
issues.
