He should have fined you. You can also get fined big-time for this
in San Diego. More seriously, I think the only way we will ever get
drivers to stop at pedestrian crossings (e.g., on Elm Street in
town) is by accepting a certain amount of responsibility in return.
That said, I'm also wildly in favor of my new plan to balance the
budget: Felony failing to signal. Basically, you make it a
potential felony not to signal any turn you make. This would be
worth billions since people would kind of have to pay my proposed
$500 fine rather than be found guilty of the felony and losing
(among other things) their voting priviledges. Seriously, this
would be win-win-win. Either people in Columbia learn to use their
turn signals, or the state budget is in better shape, or numbskulls
lose the right to vote. What's not to like? :-)
