Not a single one hit my insurance - wonderful things called court supervision and driving school. I'm 24. With the exception of my very first ticket the conditions are usually the same: interstate, night, dry, clear, zero traffic, speeding. I'll admit I've had a few that weren't that though - like this morning (no traffic, Rolling Stones on the radio, 64 in a 45). I only felt like I didn't deserve one of them (speed trap in small SC town) I realize the purpose of speeding tickets is revenue and have no problem paying my dues for speeding - it's not like I don't realize how fast I'm going - that is the speed I choose to travel right then. If I get caught I get caught - I put safety very high on my list while driving and realize that faster does not necessarily mean less safe. I've actually gotten a ticket for avoiding an accident waiting to happen. I was cruising up to see my girlfriend on the 4th of July several years back and looked around at all the minivans loaded to the gills in heavy traffic. After one nearly took me out when he didn't check anything apparently (wasn't even in his blind spot - I stay out on purpose) I decided I had enough of this traffic and broke for the deadland between "groups" on the interestate - boom got nailed by an unmarked mustang. I was not thrilled but didn't feel too badly about paying my dues that day. This mentality may have saved my wife a major accident just the other day - she was going along behind a semi (no trailer) with no problems. It started raining. She thought "you know - I'm fine here but I may as well move on ahead (which meant speeding) to get away from this traffic. She saw the semi fishtail about 1 minute later in her rearview mirror - she doesn't know if other cars were involved but felt like she avoided the chance. -- Brent -----Original Message----- From: EMAIL:PROTECTED [mailto:EMAIL:PROTECTED]On Behalf Of Ross, Matthew Sent: Tuesday, December 02, 2003 6:37 PM To: MLUG Off-Topic Discussion Subject: RE: [MLUG - DISCUSSION] Offtopic (car up for sale) > I know some trucks don't have to have them, but they wouldn't > give you two license plates if you only need one :) > > I know more people who have gotten a ticket by UCLA then you > would want to count. I personally believe they sit there to > "harass" the college students > who will pay the fines and not make to big of a stink. Agreed. The cop said they were patrolling by the schools heavily (pointing to the high school on the far side of LU's football field). Interestingly enough though, he was still hanging around the college when I left, and there was never a day when I didn't see someone pulled over on the 'gateway' road through campus. Another note. I've gotten two tickets in my life. That one on Cherry St. running through LU's campus, and one on the highway right in front of MSHP's Troup I. The one on the highway I deserved, but what they have in common is that both times my answer to "where were you headed" was to a college as a student. All other times I've been pulled over I was heading home or to work, and was given a warning. (except the time I forgot to put those little inspection stickers on my plate - the officer was just concerned they might have been stolen, and didn't even chastise me for it) _______________________________________________ discussion mailing list EMAIL:PROTECTED http://mlug.missouri.edu/mailman/listinfo/discussion
