He's wealthy enough and old enough already, and he's been very picky about who he lets handle LOTR. I think he's trying to keep LOTR from suffering the fate of so many other great stories. While I loved Muppet Treasure Island, and thought Treasure Planet was an interesting twist on the story, the original story is lost because it is dreary by comparison. The modern audience thinks of Treasure Island as story about dancing, singing pirates... As soon as Chris croaks, I think we'll see Muppet of the Rings or something like it turning yet another once powerful classic into yet another comical medium that few remember the history of.
