That was the case when I was in gradeschool, I think you're just living
in a rather sheltered part of the US. We learned to imitate gratuitous
violence from TV, it wasn't until we were old enough to join Scouts or
similar organizations that we learned anything definitive about woodland
creatures. "Oh, thats a racoon? I thought they were called 'get the hell
out of my garbage can', thats what mommy always calls them."
