Try making a top500 machine running Windows and I'll bet you get free
Windows. It's like a huge advertisement for them.
I'm sure they give deep discounts to universities for similarly selfish
reasons -- millions of students pass through the universities and they get
used to using windows. Then they want to use it on the job and at home
and they teach their kids to use it too.
