Yeah, like Jerry said, it probably depends on what they want to do, so 
they actively look in certain domains or IP ranges.  I tend to think of 
script kiddies when cracking is mentioned (or those who have compromised 
systems that are scanning), but the hard core hacker probably has 
specific interests.
