I think the problem with the CD thing is you have to have a RW space to put configs and working files. With a CD only distro, you have to put that in ram or on a scratch disk.

Try Midori. It runs on cramfs, but I think you can modify any of these systems to run off a HD.

Midori has most of the stuff you need included, but you will want the developers system so you can create the HD image. It runs on CramFS within 32 Meg on my IA1, so it’s easy on the memory with a maximum of features.

Couldn’t you edit a live cd and strip the stuff you don’t need and add your mp3’s?

Subject: [MLUG - DISCUSSION] smallest distro

Hello all,
I am trying to put a linux box together that will only play mp3s and audio cds, so xmms.  So, I am looking for the distro with that uses the smallest on space taken on the hard drive.  A live cd wont work due to lack of ram.  Any ideas.

Thanks
