Actually, you have a good idea there. I am not sure about the 4.7"^2
MB's. I think they can get a little pricy. What does a dream cast have
in it? I don't think it has enough I/O for what you are wanting to do.
You may have to hack together an ATX system and use some sort of
embedded microcontroller on a serial interface in order to do the bit
banging you may need to interface to your relays/digital switches.

Rock on... But... I think it will be hard to find a inverter to
convert the
240 volt 3 phase from the tracks... especially at the intersections
when the
power blinks...
Good luck geting a dream cast hooked up to that old beast....
Seriously though take a look at embeded devices....
http://linuxdevices.com/
Get one of those 4.7in^2 mother boards... heck get a heads up display
and a
twilddler on the wheel or stick shift, patch directly into the ALDL with
a
home brew TLL converter and you are good to go... You would be a "borg"
car...
Just don't crash the kernel while on the interstate.. Diesels don't
take
kindly to stalled cars...
