With that, you shouldn't have seen much activity at all. When under attack from a worm or a script kiddie, your internet activity would be heavy.

Some of those popup windows load virii. Booting to safe mode and running a virusscan would be a good idea, if it lets you.

I've not had any such troubles with Putty, but its worth a shot.
