iirc, "Fou" means "fool" while "Faux" means "fake" or "false".

"Fou" would be pronounced the same as "Foo" though, so you might be right. Sort of like "Fools gold", "Fools Fighter" would make sense. Unfortunately, the only airman I know personally who was in WW2 died when I was young.

Not that this thread hasn't gone enough directions already, but were the "Foo Fighters" ball lightning, or one of the less explained UFO phenomenon?

And on a further side question, why doesn't Missouri get crop circles? As far as I can tell, all we've ever gotten was a "T" cut through a patch of trees in Defiance, MO. I'm thinking a circle with a depiction of Tux in the center of it would be good, and would prove there is intellegent (linux using) life "out there" ;-)

The giant "T" makes it seem like the aliens read Huxley's "Brave New World".
