Sorry to disagree but if my sam gets corrupted I just boot with this LINUX BASED :) offline boot disk:
http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/bootdisk.html
and change the password, reboot and away you go.

If the SAM hive files are fubar then the best/easiest option is to put the HD
in another windows machine and pull the data off that is important... Put a
gun to the bunnys head and start from scratch... OR... boot on CD (the 2k
cd) and start up the recovery console... (I am sure you don't have an erd...)
look in the winnt dir for a file called backup (If you want I can give better
directions just email me)... restore the hive files... But, this only works
for a while... usualy you get system corruption again... (caused by
driver files and roll back... or just a nasty winders bug...) Finally,
another option would be to put in an XP upgrade disk and do an upgrade
install... It should repair the SAM hive files... (I have never tried this
one though)...
I agree with the comment eariler end the window virus and put a real os on
there... (I suggest Gentoo if you have a few days to compile)...
Seriously you might show them knoppix... if they like put something easy like
mandrake or RH on there... Heck Red Hat with up2date is almost as easy as
windows... Throw ximian evolution on there and they have as good if not
better than outlook...
Hope this helps...
