One of the best ways to go is to have a massive hard drive, keep
everything on it, have a big tape drive, write everything to tape, do
incrementals, etc. RAID also helps.

In my workplace, everybody is backed up to tape over the network. It
seems pretty reliable.

If you just want to store some files on some medium and take it off of the
HD, I'm not sure, but CD-R is probably a lot better than some have
suggested. What the article shows is that *some* CD-R media are so bad
that they degrade almost immediately. I doubt very much that *most* CD-R
media are that unreliable. How can we know? Is there a good way to test
for degradation of a CD-R?
