They are. With dialup compressed and broadband not, a v.92 56k dialup is supposedly equivalent to a 128k broadband. Doesn't take into account the fact that most of what you download is compressed already though, or the phone line limitations, so your best dialup is more like a 46k broadband in practice.

Exactly. The only way they could pull this off is by not running compression on their basic service, which would mean your 56k isn't benefitting from being a v.90 or v.92. Their "highspeed" utilizes these, and is merely an excuse to jack up the price.

By the way, when they quit being a free service, did they get rid of that AOHell-like adware interface?
