Oh... Well, then it will depend on your interface and its flow. IMO, a brief
description is still better than a symbol that may not mean anything to some.

Mozilla 1.2.1 seems to mimic MacOS's file-saving dialogs, but they really
didn't think them through, IMHO. For example, there was no "Create new
directory" button before Mozilla 1.2; the "Look in" drop-down list and the "Go
up a level" button do the same thing. But best of all, if you try to save all
attachments in Mozilla Mail via "Save All..." dialog, it asks you to pick a
directory name but *not open it*, even though if you create a new directory,
Mozilla opens it for you. You can either go to the parent and then pick it
again or type in a dot for current directory. The typing ruins the consistency
of the dialog, and the directory changing is annoying, especially if you have
a lot of them. It took me a while to start simply typing the dot... :)
