McDonalds would quit selling Happy Meals, the toy and clothing industries
would collapse overnight, and Martha Stewart wouldn't be able to afford a
decent lawyer.
Afterwards, heavy investment in automation will kill manual labor, college
degrees will be reduced to the point where you can major in grunting to be
employed as lower middle management. Beaurocracy would grow to encompass the
remaining unemployed, and the country as a whole would finally reach full
employment, but the value of the dollar would reduce so far in the process
that the Japanese Yen would be an even exchange for it.
In the end, social and financial pressure would force the president at the
time to go to war with a class 1 nation, which can only be China or Galia
(France + Germany). Galia is agressively pacifist, so it chooses to nuke us
first. We shoot down their missiles, but China jumps in, thus creating the
world war our economy needs, killing off 30% of the worlds population, and
revaluing the worlds currencies. China removes its trade embargo as a sign
of peace, but the gesture is meaningless, as they have since been forced to
keep their industry internal, and thus discovered how well plastic junk
sells to the masses, and want a fortune for the 'Made in China' toys..
