After being subjected to the Mathematic madness that is Dr. Saab's
personal fiefdom (Mr. Montgomery-Smith: you have the distinction of
teaching my first class at Mizzou), I think that learning how to math
by hand is of the utmost importance. Calculators are nice, but they
aren't always handy when you want to do stuff like calculate your
average mileage on a car trip--don't try to type and drive at
the same time! Unfortunately (or, perhaps fortunately) my new
car calculates the mileage for me.
Still, though, this last week while running diagnostics on a machine,
it would have been good to come up with an estimate of how long it
would take. Running stress tests and diags still takes too darn long,
it's about like watching paint dry, but without all the exciting fumes.
