OK, so to make a long story short, somebody (not me!) in my family
requested a slide rule (I guess he must be homozygous for the "geek"
gene). You can buy a half-way decent one on line...for a fairly rich
price. But I figured I would ask: if anybody on the list has one that
would be good for a beginner that they'd be willing to sell, I'd be
thrilled. ( Remember: it's going to a good home.) Similarly, if you know
where I could buy one locally, I'd be happy to know that, too.
Note that by a "beginner's rule" I mean one that just has maybe A B CI C D
and K on the front; trig and other functions are optional and could be on
the back. A 10" rule would be nice; not one of the miniature ones or the
20" behemoths with 17 million scales on the front. A case would be nice;
don't stress on a manual. Also note that I have tried the following places
with no luck:
MU Bookstore
Office Depot
Staples
Ann's Teacher Store
It turns out that nobody has really made one since about 1975. It frosts
me to pay an "antique premium" for one, but there you go. Thanks in
advance.
