If someone is interested I could use ALLOT of help building a web server
(apache) on a *nix distro and setting up FTP and Users. It is on my project
wall to set up a computer so we can provide faculty and staff with some web
space and I'd love to learn enough to do it on a Linux box rather then a M$
box.

Yes I am a siminewbie.

Everything I've heard so far seems to point to installs as the thing to do
this meeting. Any other ideas, and if installs, which distro's do we want to
use? I have SuSE 8, but I'm sure between us, we have every distro worth
using. I doubt we want to do mandrake or RH, unless we want to invite the
public (in which case we probably ought to make it an official function
rather than just a get-together). Mandrake and RH are fairly
straight-forward, and I doubt anyone here would be intrigued by it (but I
may be wrong, feel free to correct me).

SuSE is also straight-forward, but it has every option known to man in
would-be-convenient-if-there-weren't-so-damn-many menues. It takes an hour
to pick everything, so despite the fact that I like it, I don't reccommend
it for a meetings install.

Slackware and Debian are more interesting installs, and might provide more
entertainment. I've also been considering trying redmond linux, just to see
if evil can be transferred by osmosis. ;-)
