As far as I can tell... I'm successfully formatting the discs.  They just won't boot, unless they're running linux. :)
I don't know if installing windows up until the reboot process... then installing linux and *lilo* in the extra space would help ... so I can make lilo do the work instead of the icky windows bootstrap.  :)

If you can get to a command prompt after attempting to install Windoze,
see if you can type in "format c:"
That may work. Otherwise I always get a boot disk, and get to the command
prompt and run fdisk from the floppy.
I then delete all partions, and make a new DOS partion.
I then use the above format c: command. That should get you to a place
where you can install winders.

What a pain in the wazoo.
And we wonder why we dislike M$...
