Not necessarily. You may purchase new hardware for more user accounts and additional software requirements that still includes support for your old applications. A new server system is NOT necessarily built to replace your old software and applications, but provide greater speed and allow more users to use those same set of applications, or typically add an application to an existing set. This means you need backwards compliancy on new hardware and software. Now, if you can afford to upgrade your software (either through upgrade or rewriting the software) that's great, but not every business can afford to do this.

I am just saying who is going to lay out $5,000 or more to buy a new server and the OS and still run a dos app? If you are still going to run a dos app you are going to use the old hardware you already have.

Oh Golly, Beav, that would be great... The only thing is that Dad here has
some mighty tight pockets. We just are unable to get anyone to see that we
really do need to upgrade our software package to something more modern.
All we ever hear is that this meets most everthing that we want to do at
the moment, and that we can beg and plead other machines to run it. Eddie
on the other hand
has all of neat stuff but his parents are loaded. We just have to make
due.

Who is going to lay out the money to for windows 2003 server and hardware then run a dos network program?
If you are still running a dos program over your network you might want to check into upgrading your software package first.
