Now nobody is talking about things being under control in Hong Kong or
Singapore, while the number of probable cases in Canada is way up (from 74
to 90 in 2 days). The number of probable or suspect cases in Canada now
totals 226, and there are now probable cases in multiple provinces. The
number of cases being investigated in the US is also way up, but the word
is that they are being extremely aggressive here about recognizing even a
hint of a possibility of the disease (basically the opposite of the
Chinese approach). The time it takes for the number of cumulative cases
to double time in most places with active transmission now seems to be
7-10 days. That might not seem too fast until you realize that if things
were to continue at the current rate (which is, fortunately, not very
likely) we'd see everybody on the planet be exposed to it within 7 months,
and the death rate is still 4% (except in Canada, where's it's 10% for
reasons that still not completely clear).
