Certifications got me my first job out of college - hands down. When
that company decided to outsource all of IT - certifications and my
relationship with SANS helped get me my second job. Certifications, my
relationship with SANS, and the ability to speak well got me my third
job - at a net of 50% more than I started out of college at.
Certs and I have done very well together - I use them to learn a lot
quickly more than validate existing knowledge though . . .

Given that the current economic market in the IT field is the weakest
it has been in a while, many people are considering their options, and
certification is one of the first things they consider. Emmett discusses
the cost vs. the value of Unix/Linux certification.
