They do have places like Microcenter in the DC area, which is a reasonable
facsimile of Fry's, even down to the surly sales people, but without the
consumer appliances. I just think that Fry's probably decided to limit
itself to the Southwest/West Coast.

Aha! So you're the other person bugging them about this. The Whole Foods
Market we have in St. Louis carries a lot of Trader Joe-esque stuff, but
the prices are much higher. It'll keep me satisfied for the next couple
of years until the decide to expand.

I don't know about that. My baggage could have been searched, after all,
the bottles might look suspicous and are unmarked. Secondly, baggage
compartments aren't pressurized on most planes (except the ones where
they keep those annoying yappy dogs that the upper crust insists on
bringing with them), so my pressurized beer bottles would stand a decent
chance of making my suitcase and contents smell like a fraternity rug
when they decided to auto-open at 37,000 feet.
I think I'll just put them in my carry on next time, pack an extra and
offer the security guard to pick one at random and I'll drink it to prove
it's not dangerous. Heck, I think they'd probably just let me on if I
explained what it was. As it was, I'm glad I didn't pack them. Those
new, efficient federal employees increased the wait in the premium customer
line (I fly more than 25kmiles/year) from the usual five minutes to 45.
If there were any hassle about the homebrew, I might have not made it to DC.
