Here's my geeky view: Let N equal the number of people living in the
catchment area for the store. Let p equal the probability that any one of
those people, selected at random, is a geek. Let n equal the number of
geeks in the catchment area. Then,
n = p * N
So, they will build a Fry's when n is sufficiently large. This could
happen because p, the proportion of geeks, is large (as in Silicon Valley)
or it could be because N is large (as in L.A.), or both.
Your geek,
Mike
