Well, the winners write the histories, and they said the 
Phillistines had no class. :-)  Or, more likely, they had art that 
other people thought wasn't very good-looking.  Or something...

Actually, I think he really was annoyed because they spent so much 
money on *sculpture*, which he thought could be gotten more cheaply.
And which was kind of high risk, of course.
