Both sets of columns are interesting stories. The ones on the
quad were basically all that was left when the first academic
building burned to the ground. Keeping them up was an obvious
memorial. The columns by the courthouse are there, though,
because it was decided (against many people's wishes) to tear
down the building that was there; they basically left those
columns standing as a sop to the protesters of that by-gone
day. They are indeed impactful and elegant, and very possibly
because nobody was trying to hard.

There's a statue by the courthouse that has interest because lots of
kids play on it. There are a few notable buildings around town.
There are even a few very nice paintings in the university art
museum. But there isn't that much.
