So why does a Honda Civic get almost twice the gas mileage at acceptable performance? You know, most of that horse power is only there when your pushing the 3500 RPM to maintain your speed at 130MPH (I'm just guessing. Actual numbers may vary). In the mean time, the extra displacement and weight is just keeping you from getting any better mileage. Sure, you get more power when you tromp on it, and force it to down shift like when your passing, but when your cruising it don't make a difference.
Thing with the Honda is that you can increase the Hp and Torque with a laptop, software, and a little bit of tweaking. I think that some have doubled it by doing that. Try that with your Old Tech Camaro. :-)
Don't get me wrong, I like GM products, but I also have an appreciation for the quality and fit and finish of a lot of Asian car makers. To them it's a matter of honor to make a good car. Here it just a matter of money. I think that makes a difference.

Z28 Camaro $23430.00 Honda Civic $19690.00
                        310HP 160 HP
                        340lb/ft 132
lb/ft.
                        3433 lbs. 2752 lbs.
                        28 MPG ?

                        11 lbs/hp 17.2
lbs/hp
                        10 lbs/(lb/ft) 20.8
lbs/(lb/ft)

So with the Camaro you get a lot more enjoyable ride because of the better
power/weight ratio than the Civic, it's rear wheel drive, and it's American, an
unbeatable combonation :-D
