My brother's been happy with his $20 set. The speakers look like those
plastic "L" shaped picture stands wal-mart sells, and the subwolfer is a box
with a hole in the bottom (if you turn it upside down, it looks very much
like the toilets we had at summer camp). I forgot the brand name, but it
was on clearance at Staples for $10 a few months ago. No headphone jack
though.
Personally, I spent my $20 on cables and adapters, and ran my computer sound
through the Aux/CD jack on my stereo. I now have full sized speakers, plus
my original PC speakers (good sound, no headphone jack). On the other hand,
my sound card is apparently pretty decent. The PC speakers aren't powered,
so they work as well as headphones. My old PC (166mhz) had two sound outs,
one was for powered devices, the other for non. With that one, I didn't
need the splitter, just ran PC speakers through the red plug, and my stereo
through the black.
