I wasn't very good with my checkbook stub anyway, so the Debit card didn't
change anything for me, but anyway..

If you don't cary a checkbook, you can always keep your records in a PDA or
whatever else you have with you. I like Jim's method here, but I usually
wind up just running through my bank statement, making sure I remember each
purchase and that their math adds up, and just writing in my checkbook what
the statement says. After that, I throw away the wad of yellow debit
reciepts. That's actually better than check, IMHO, as many banks have
stopped sending you copies of your checks with the statement. The only
screwup I've had on my account in the last 6 months has been a check I wrote
for $3.25 that was cashed for $7.25. I had no check to prove it, but at the
time, I was religiously writing down every check I wrote. As Michael
pointed out, it's a pain to argue with the bank, so for $4, I just noted it
in my records, and let it go.
